AI in education and empowerment: actors, practices and trends at the CRIFPE Conference (Event in French)
The digital transformation in the various spheres of society has brought about several challenges, notably that of training and equipping current and future citizens so that they can actively participate in social and economic activities. In this context, the role of educational actors is twofold: on the one hand, to train in artificial intelligence (AI) and on the other hand, to train with AI. The new generation of powerful educational technology tools supports an educational paradigm shift that reflects the realities of our digitally transformed society. With the examination of these tools also comes the collective responsibility to discuss the ethical issues they imply, including the maintenance of individual autonomy, social and cultural diversity, equity and privacy. This symposium brought together researchers, educational practitioners and tool developers, to illustrate the relevance of conceiving AI in education as a research field in its own right. The goals were i) to share innovative AI practices and tools; ii) to work collectively to identify emerging trends, and iii) to exchange on how to evaluate AI technologies in light of ethical considerations and their promise to be specialized, flexible and personalized.
